Re: How to make full guest OS backup?
Okay, so the OVF option will allow me to store this file anywhere I want for safety, correct? Another word, it's not store within the same physical server that ESXI is installed, right?
View ArticleRe: How to make full guest OS backup?
Correct, when using the vSphere Client to export the OVF you will save to the local filesystem from where the vSphere Client is being run.

So, another word, I can't put this file somewhere else? How is this useful if the physical server failed?
View ArticleRe: How to make full guest OS backup?
No, it would be the local filesystem of the Windows box that the vSphere Client is running on. It would be away from the local ESXi filesystem for sure.

I see. Well, I guess for now, a manual process is fine -- better than having nothing. Okay, so for the restore, what steps do I need to take after installing ESXI hypervisor and vSphere Client? Many...

For the restore, you would also use the vSphere Client from the system where the export is saved. File -> Deploy OVF Template and follow the wizard.

I'm afraid that won't work. RDMs larger than 2TB are only supported in physical (pass-through) mode with ESXi 5.0 or later, and a guest iSCSI initiator to access the LUN this way isn't an option with...
