You might be seeing a different issue. I guess the proxies might not have initialized. Try rebooting the appliance once

Are you trying to backup Windows 2008 r2 VMs. If yes , please set disk.EnableUUID = FALSE in the VM advanced configuration. Check kb article 2035736
